Autumn School was conceived by Peter Tay as a response to his interpretation of what was found missing in design and its approach towards society. Contemporary society continued to be served by the redesign efforts first started by the then Bauhaus School and HfG Ulm. This design consciousness remains the most influential even till today. Autumn School was constructed so that the process of putting together this design methodology can begin today.

Peter Tay is the Director and Principal of Autumn School. He had served as:

• Advisory Board Member (for Technology, Sustainability, Future Cities and Energy) of the Singapore Tourism Board for the Shanghai World Expo 2010. • Senior Assistant Director of DesignSingapore Council, Ministry of Information, Communications and the Arts. • Assistant Head of the Product Innovation and Development Programme, Agency for Science, Technology and Research. • Fellow of the National University of Singapore. • Manager in the Chief Technology Officer Office of Singapore Technologies Engineering. • Analyst in Andersen Consulting.

Peter Tay has lived and worked in over twenty countries including countries in Europe, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, the U.S., and the Ex-Soviet Bloc.

Peter Tay graduated with a Master of Science in Guided Weapon Systems from the elite Royal Military College of Science, Cranfield University, U.K. while on a scholarship from Singapore Technologies Dynamics. Peter Tay was conferred the Baker Prize when he graduated with a Honors Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Sheffield, U.K.
